Flu and allergy season are here and as much as I love spring, I am not looking forward to the sneezing and congestion side of it. Enter — these immunity and allergy shots! Each ingredient in these shots is a superfood with anti-inflammatory, immune boosting, and allergy relieving properties.
Vitamin C, antioxidants, antihistamines, and a host of vitamins and minerals are what give this drink its magic. One essential ingredient for allergy relief is the local honey. If you don’t know where to find it, try your local grocery store. At mine, I just get the grocery store brand (Harmon’s Utah Honey).
Immunity Shots
Total time: 20 minutes
Makes about 5 c juice
Ingredients
1 lemon, peeled
2 oranges, peeled
½ pineapple, peeled and chopped
1 ½ - 2 inches ginger, peeled
2 c water
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp local honey (local is essential for allergy relief! Add extra if your allergies need extra help. You can find local honey at your local grocery store or farmer’s market)
¼ tsp cracked black pepper
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tbsp ground turmeric
Instructions
1. Peel the oranges and lemon. I recommend doing this with a citrus peeler or knife to get as much of the pith (white stuff attached to the peel) off to prevent bitterness. Cut the pineapple and peel the ginger (try peeling your ginger with a spoon).
2. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until completely smooth.
3. Strain through a fine strainer or a nut milk bag. Straining is not completely necessary if you like pulp, but I much prefer a smoother, thinner shot.
4. Store in the fridge for 2 weeks. An effective daily dose for immunity and allergy relief is 3+ oz. I wash empty spice jars and use those for my “shot glasses.”
P.S. separation is natural. just shake it up and you’re good to go!
Love this!
